What kind of libertarian advocates increasing our already hefty tax burden? In this case, a new tax called a carbon tax. Apparently so-called libertarians over at Reason Online.

Jonathan Rauch
and Ronald Bailey both appear to be advocating a carbon tax to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Bailey appears to advocate a cap and trade system as well. Not what I would call free market environmentalism. It’s not very libertarian in my book either.

Which GIRL is your type?

My Results:

The Artist.

Truly unique looking. Striking features. Usually light eyes and red or brown hair. Looks to be a very interesting and creative person. (Famous people who resemble this type: Nicole Kidman, Natalie Portman, Marcia Cross, Uma Thurman, Rachel Weisz, Maggie Gyllenhaal)

***

Actually, I think my type would combine this one with the type the quiz calls The Siren, because I’d add black hair too. And medium – dark skin. Exotic looks. Such a combined type would include my wife.

***

Update: Yup, I took the quiz again with I think only one change in my answers and got The Siren.

Which GIRL is your type?

My Results:

The Siren

Hot. Exotic looking. Usually has one prominent feature. Most commonly has medium – dark skin and hair. (Famous women who resemble this type: Penelope Cruz, Salma Hayek, Eva Longoria, Eva Mendes, Jennifer Lopez, Halle Berry)

***

Although not listed in either, Adriana Lima in my opinion could be listed in both categories although perhaps more strongly in The Siren.

In a previous post, I discussed John C. Wright’s Golden Age science fiction trilogy.

Well, just today on his LiveJournal blog he claims to be a closet anarchist!

I’m not entirely certain he wasn’t just making a joke though. Decide for yourself:

“My local library interviewed me, and posted the result here for all and sundry to hear. The government people were very nice, and I am sure they did not know I am a closet anarchist. (That is, I believe in lawlessness for wardrobes.)”

Update (03/22/07): Well, this recent post by Wright answers that question. Definitely not an anarchist. Ah well, it was a fun thought while it lasted. ;o)

The Great Global Warming Swindle

March 12, 2007 @ 8:59 am

Food for thought: You can download a copy of this Channel 4 (UK) documentary. (RealPlayer or codecs needed, high rate of compression, thus only 45 MB) here: http://www.indybay.org/uploads/2007/03/08/global_warming_swindle.rm Even if it is biased, it surely is no more so and no less factual than Al Gore’s documentary. And perhaps it is still the more accurate [...]

Libertarian F&SF Author John C. Wright

March 10, 2007 @ 9:44 pm

There is a quasi-interview/article here at The Advocates for Self-Government website. See, also, Wright’s page on SFF.net. I have only read Wright’s Golden Age trilogy, not any of his other novels. I can say that I greatly enjoyed the trilogy. Not only is it good science fiction but it is explicitly libertarian science fiction. There [...]

Google Mass Transit: Free, Green, and Luxurious

March 10, 2007 @ 12:40 pm

Check it out. Google’s buses a good chunk of its workforce to work everyday for free. And the ride comes complete with leather seats, wireless internet access, computer and mobile alerts for when the bus is late, bike racks, and dogs are allowed. AND the buses run on biodiesel. The article also mentions some of [...]
